my life was suddenly and briefly rendered worthwhile today.
as I was researching the punctuation in Bob Evans (please note, there is NO punctuation in the restaurant's name Bob Evans) I realized that the majority of the websites devoted to Bob Evans (no punctuation anywhere, as a matter of fact) were all devoted to a Canadian acoustic guitar player named Bob Evans.
He's from Regina, Saskatchewan. The hometown of my own pet Canadian.
So, Bob Evans is Bob from Canada.
Score one more for Canada...
((UPDATE: Canada has been fired--or quit--or something. Forget Canada, and Vive les Quebecois!))
What I learned from editing the life of Julie Drouet, Victor Hugo's mistress:
"A woman who has one lover is an angel. A woman who has two lovers is a monster. And a woman who has many lovers is a woman."
[the french actresses' code]
i should have been a courtesan. i would have been very, very good at it.

What I learned from editing a book about how men can cope with women going through menopause:
1. men really are self-centered brats who have to be convinced that being considerate is really in their best interests because "the more pleasure you give a woman the more likely it is she'll reciprocate"
2. get your kicks while you're young, because menopause sounds like it's gonna suck. real, REAL bad.
